Task Force Recommends Year-Round Schedule for Pasco Elementary Schools
Pasco, Wash. - A task force says year-round school is the best option to alleviate overcrowding at Pasco's elementary schools.
The multi-track year round task force presented their recommendations to the Pasco School Board Tuesday night.
The first recommendation would re-configure the schools to create Kindergarten through 6th grade elementary schools, and middle schools with 7th & 8th graders.
The task force also recommended adopting a multi-track year-round school calendar for all of the district's elementary schools. Middle school and high school students would continue to use the traditional school calendar. Task force members say it took a lot of discussion to get to this point.
"When we started, I think if we had voted on the first of March, we might've had one or two votes to do this. When we finished, it was unanimous. So we didn't have any dissension by the time we finished the process," said Greg Falk, who participated in the task force.
The school district will hold a series of informational meetings for parents and students over the next few weeks. The School Board is expected to take action on the proposal in October.
