YAKIMA, Wash.-- Now that the new Yakima City Manager is in office he appointed the new Fire Chief Wednesday, and it's a familiar face.
Dave Willson has been serving as Interim Chief since last December.
He was born and raised in Yakima and has been a part of the Yakima Fire Department since 1984. This coming January will be his 28th year with the department.
Before coming back to Yakima he worked in both Pierce County and Bellevue as a firefighter.
Chief Willson's father also worked with Yakima Fire as a Battalion Chief and Willson says it's an honor to be the man in charge.
"It's daunting, just because I know the history of the fire department and all the people that have worked on this fire department... It's quite an honor, so I don't want to mess it up," said Chief Willson.
Chief Willson has worked as a technical training assistant, lieutenant, and captain in the department as well as in other capacities.
He says he is excited to continue the work he started while serving as Interim Fire Chief, and says he will work hard to maintain the high level of service the department gives to the city.
