YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima Greenway Foundation is about to start work on another mile of pathway to connect Naches to Yakima.
The foundation is hoping to have it finished by late October so people can enjoy it before winter rolls in.
This new mile is going to be built on the Naches side of the Greenway, extending that portion to over 3 miles long.
The Greenway Foundation is hoping to raise enough money to connect the Naches side to the Yakima side, creating another 10 mile stretch of recreation space for people.
Organizers say the 2 mile stretch of the Naches Greenway is heavily used and people there are excited for another mile.
"The community is excited. The 2 miles that's built, it's been utilized like crazy. The Naches community and the people that live out there are already utilizing that 2 miles, they're just chomping at the bit, ready for us to be done," said Liz Fonfara with the Yakima Greenway Foundation.
It costs the Greenway Foundation about $300,000 to build a mile of pathway, money that they raise through their "Fund-a-Foot" program.
Currently the Greenway has a 10 mile stretch from Yakima to Union gap, but with more people donating they're hoping to get the next 7 miles built, sooner than later.
