Church volunteers thousands of people for community service
WEST RICHLAND, Wash.--Church volunteers thousands of people for community service. If you were out driving Saturday you may have seen groups of people working on projects throughout Benton and Franklin county.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints organized thousands of people for their day of service. Today we spoke with some of the volunteers in West Richland where they were planting dry creek beds along bombing range road.
Director of Public Affairs Richard Wright says "there's 30 different projects going on with approximately 3,000 volunteers. For instance we are painting the gym at the Martin Luther King Center and the Grange Hall is being painted."
This is the second year the church has volunteered in remembrance of 9/11. They plan on doing more projects next year.
