Selah school could win $150,000Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wash.-- An elementary school in Selah wants you to vote so they can win up to $150,000. John Campbell Elementary School is in US Cellular's "Calling All Communities" contest.
If John Campbell wins first place, it'll get that $150,000, but if it only makes it into the top 18, it'll still win $50,000.
The ranking is based off the number of votes the school gets on US Cellular's website. Selah's Robert Lince Elementary won a hundred thousand dollars in the contest two years ago. The district and the Parent Teacher Organization are trying to mobilize people to vote for the school. The district says if they win, the money will be split evenly between all Selah schools. It's about helping the schools through tough economic times.
"I have two children in the school district and… anything I can do to help out the teachers and the staff to get things that they're not getting to use in their classrooms, I think is very important," says Carla Scott of the Selah Parent Teacher Organization.
"We know that it's a challenging for our schools and so it's very rewarding to be able to make a difference in our communities and in our schools," says U.S. Cellular Store Manager Elizabeth Nelson
If you want to vote in this contest, you'll need to pick up a card from a US Cellular store. You can then head here and use the code on the card to choose your school. You can vote once every day until the campaign ends on October 6th.
