BENTON CITY, Wash. -- New information tonight about a Benton County Sheriff's deputies and the Richland bomb squad were called to a bomb scare at Kiona-Benton High School.
According to the district, a student came to the building Monday morning with a small piece of aluminum pipe he bragged about blowing up inside his home.
Parents of Ki-Be students were concerned about the news "and of course I get concerned and wonder if someday somebody might be crazy and do something," explains parent Raymond del Angel.
Police responded to the school at 10:30 Monday morning. School superintendent Rom Castilleja says all students and staff were never in danger, "in this case, there was no threat made. And there was no indication that he had an explosive device other than the piece of metal that had been blown up. "
The superintendent says the student doesn't have any past problems. Despite rumors of a lock down, officials say the Sheriff's office determined the school was not in danger because the student never made threats to the school.
