Americans seek new leadership on defense

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The Americans' defense lost two key pieces this off-season. They lost captain Tyler Schmidt, who finished seventh on the team in points, and goalie Drew Owsley, who anchored the league's eighth best scoring defense. Heading into main camp the Ams are in search of a starting net minder and back line combinations. Returning starters Zach Yuen and Brock Sutherland are confident change will not hurt Tri-City.

Defenseman Zach Yuen, "I think our D core is really young this year, but we got a lot of skill and potential back there and hopefully I can guide them and take them through the step I went through." Defenseman Brock Sutherland added, "You always remember when you were younger and you always felt like you want the vets to like you. You're timid to say something so just as an older guy you try and make everyone feel welcomed."
