Kennewick City Council Extends Marijuana Collective Garden Moratorium

Posted: Updated:

Kennewick, Wash. - Kennewick's City Council is taking a "wait and see" approach to the issue of medical marijuana collective gardens.

On Tuesday night, the City Council voted to extend the city's moratorium on collective gardens for another six months.

The City Council originally issued a temporary moratorium back in July.  Council members say they're hoping the state legislature will provide some clarity on the issue.

"There are discrepancies between the federal, state, and local jurisdictions on how the matter should be handled and we want to have a clear and concise manner of handling the issue," said Kennewick Mayor Pro Tem Sharon Brown.

Also on Tuesday night, Richland's City Council voted to extend their moratorium for another six months, in hopes of getting some better guidance from state lawmakers this winter.
