Benton County Prosecutor swims for a cause

RICHLAND, Wash. -- You know him as the Benton County Prosecutor, but on Thursday, Andy Miller was out of the court room, out of a suit and tie, and into a swimsuit.

Miller took a swim Thursday afternoon on the Columbia River at Howard Amon Park in Richland.

The Prosecutor agreed to swim five miles to the Edison boat launch all in the name of charity. With the help of Facebook, he's managed to raise about $1,000 for "My Friends Place, " a homeless shelter opening for teens.

"As a prosecutor, I do think there are a lot of youth in the Tri-Cities that don't have any place to go home at night. I feel bad for those kids, and also if we have a healthy alternative for them, it may keep them out of trouble," said Miller.

Miller says he was inspired to swim because he was training for 10K swim last month that he had to cancel because of surgery. If you'd like to donate, go to
