RICHLAND, Wash.-- Traffic light pole destroyed by drunk driver. A traffic light pole was hit by a driver and knocked over early this morning on George Washington Way.
Richland Police say it happened at 6 a.m. on George Washington Way and Columbia Point in Richland. They say 25-year-old Bradley Wilkerson of Kennewick had been drinking almost three times the legal limit when he hit the traffic pole.
Wilkerson's car caught fire. He was not injured. He was arrested for driving under the influence.
Richland Police Sgt. Darryl Judge says "we're trying to get a temporary fix to the traffic control issues because we have nothing controlling northbound traffic in the way of a system. So the officers are controlling traffic at this point."
Traffic was stopped for several hours Sunday morning. Police expect delays through the evening. A temporary light will be installed until it can be replaced.
