FINLEY, Wash.-- Deputies investigate scrap metal thefts. Sheriff's Deputies in Benton County are investigating several reports of metal thefts. Officers say people steal the scrap metal and then resell it to make quick money.
Three different incidents happened this weekend. Two were at the same home on East Perkins Road in Finley. The other was not far from the first home. All of the thefts are under construction. Some of the metal is reportedly worth up to $10,000
Deputy Joe Lusignan says "what is more likely is somebody trying to steal this metal, those types of items so that they can cash it in and get the money. Unfortunately a lot of cases it's to supply a drug habit."
Deputies are still investigating the thefts. They've cited four people for criminal trespassing at the home. Other's were taken in for outstanding warrants.
Deputies say this happens more often because of lack of security where new buildings are being constructed.
