KENNEWICK, Wash.--Thousands of students enter band competition. High school marching bands from across the Northwest are competing Saturday. More than 3,000 students played at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick.
It was for the 2011 Southeastern Washington Cavalcade of Bands competition. The top 12 bands will compete in the finals Saturday night.
Spokesman Russ Newbury says "people just come in and perform, watch each other. Have a good time to celebrate marching band for marching bands sake, rather than being kind of a utilitarian organization playing for football games."
This is the 30th year the bands have been competing in the area. They're from Washington, Idaho, Oregon and even Canada. The awards ceremony for the winner will be at 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.
