Selah School District struggling to win money in contest

Posted: Updated:

SELAH, Wash.-- The Selah School District wants you to go vote for John Campbell Elementary online. The school is in the running for money from US Cellular's "calling all communities" campaign, but has dropped lower than the places that get money.

When we last ran this story a few weeks ago, John Campbell was in 14th place and now they're down at 19th.

The school's placement is determined by the number of votes it gets on US Cellular's website. The top 18 schools in this contest stand to win 50,000 dollars, the first place school will win 150,000.

Robert Lince Elementary won the contest two years ago, and the district and parent teacher organization hope to win money again to fund things they can't afford otherwise.

"We were able to buy so many things and we're so fortunate that with all of the budget cuts now... We could really use that funding again, so now we're asking Yakima to help us support that," Leana Anderson of the Selah Parent Teacher Organization.

If you'd like to vote for John Campbell in this campaign, you'll need to pick up a card at a US Cellular store. You can then head here to US Cellular's site to vote. You can vote every day until the contest ends on October 6th.
