Yakima committee wants to move forward on Gang Initiative
YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima City Council will consider moving forward on its Gang Free Initiative at tomorrow's meeting.
The initiative is designed to deal a blow to gangs and help fix the problem. Right now, the program still needs a director, and the city's Public Safety Committee wants to move forward on the project. But some are skeptical of the $30,000 price tag, especially with the city's budget problems.
"It's not fat that we're losing anymore, it's muscle and I'm concerned we're getting to the bone. So, I think that from my perspective, the Public Safety Committee really has to defend moving forward in this initiative in these economic times," says City Councilman Dave Edler.
The city council's business meeting starts at six PM tomorrow in city hall.
