PASCO, Wash.-- Officer shooting justified. This afternoon the Franklin County Prosecutor, Special Investigations Commander, and Pasco Police announced that Pasco Officer Chad Pettijohn was justified was he shot 19-year old Ezequiel Chavez.

Franklin County Prosecutor Shawn Sant says "the information that we've reviewed extensively and along with all the witness reports that we have identified that the use of force by Officer Pettijohn was justified."

It started when someone called in a burglary on September 14th. Pettijohn had to chase after Chavez. He asked him to stop, but Chavez instead shot at Officer Pettijohn.

Pettijohn then fired 6 rounds, hitting Chavez in the thigh and hip. Chavez was sent to the hospital and later arrested. It all happened blocks away from Pasco High School. Pettijohn was placed on leave after the shooting. He returned to work Monday.

Chavez faces charges of first degree assault, but police say he was never involved with the initial burglary call.
