Kennewick Housing Authority making changes

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.—If you're in need of housing assistance, some help that's been available in the past, isn't anymore.

The Kennewick Housing Authority made three big changes.  They've closed out their waiting list; they're considering the number of days they will be accepting applications; and they're not accepting new vouchers.

This comes after the Department of Housing and Urban Development said come July 1st 2012 they're cutting 25% of their budget.  Now the Kennewick Housing Authority is looking for ways to scale back before they're hit next summer.

"We have 916 families that are on section 8 right now, and we want to see that those people continue to be served as best we can, so we're hopefully not going to make any changes that effect them and that's why we're taking the measure that we can now to tighten up the program to see if we can keep it from effecting them," says Laurie Tufford, Board Commissioner.

Tufford says they don't expect any layoffs.
