YAKIMA, Wash- Some members of the command staff of the Yakima Police Department sported a new look today. They made good on a promise to shave their heads to help a sick little girl. Six-year-old Allison Ross just found out that her leukemia is back.
Her mother will be taking about a year off from her job with YPD while Allison undergoes treatment. Sergeant Mike Pollard issued a challenge when he heard about Allison's condition.
"I just kinda threw down the gauntlet to my folks in detectives, said you guys can donate $250 bucks, I'll shave my head and it took off from there", said Pollard.
Acting chief Greg Copeland followed suit saying he'd do it for $750. And Lt. Mike Merryman shaved his head for $1000. More than three thousand dollars were raised just this afternoon. A fund for Allison Ross has been set up at Solarity credit union.
