Local firefighters raising money for new equipment

WEST RICHLAND, Wash.-- Local firefighters raising money for new equipment. The Benton County District #4 Firefighters held a spaghetti feed Saturday afternoon.

They're hoping to buy a thermal imaging camera. The camera costs about $6,000. It would help crews find victims much faster who are trapped in structure fires. It can locate people much faster, and also detect hot spots in walls where a fire could start.

Fire Chief William Whealan says "with this you can go in and make a quick sweep within the rooms and find if you've got any patients that are in the rooms that you can actually get out of the house and save their lives."

It can also detect heat coming from small confined spaced, like walls, a storage unit or garage.
