WAPATO, Wash.-- This years harvest season is wrapping up with some farmers starting to clean their land and get it ready for winter.
Max Benedicto of Benedicto Farms in Wapato says this season was tough.
The late cold weather and lack of pickers really made it a challenge to harvest this year. Benedicto Farms is a vegetable farm on Lateral A Rd in Wapato. Max and his wife run things with the help of a few employees..
But they say that this year it was hard to find people to pick and when they did, the larger farms were able to outbid them for workers.
Benedicto says that made it tough at times to get his crops out while they were ripe and to fill big orders.
"It is a big issue because you know when the harvest is going on you have to pick your crop right away," said Benedicto.
He says that even though it was a challenging season, they still produced some great vegetables. And consumers wouldn't even know there was a problem. Benedicto says prices overall stayed pretty average for people.
Although the cold, wet weather is rolling in, there is still plenty of great fruits and veggies at stands just like theirs.
