YAKIMA, Wash- Yakima Valley Community College's accreditation is up for review. They hosted evaluators from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities today.
A lot of money is tied to accreditation, specifically financial aid. This is the first year of their new accreditation system where the school will be evaluated on how well it meets its mission.
"And that's really what the accrediting body is looking at. How effectively the college is applying, gathering and applying information in it's decision making process", says Tomas Ybarra, Vice President of YVCC.
Ybarra says overall the school has had 85% success in meeting its goals, however they still see an achievement gap between white students and students of color.
They will find out if they've been re-accredited after the first of the year.
