KENNEWICK, Wash., -- One day after a meeting to inform residential customers of a rate increase, Benton PUD held a similar meeting this morning for their business and agricultural customers.
Rates for all customers will increase nearly six percent.
Benton PUD points to an increase in wholesale energy cost, financial trends and debt as the reasons for the increase.
"Wholesale power cost and debt and taxes impact our budget by 75 percent," says Karen Miller of Benton PUD. "So, when power rates go up, it has an impact on our rates to our customers."
The increased rate will take effect on January, 1 2012.
It is unknown at this point how the rate hike could potentially effect food productions costs.
