UNION GAP, Wash.-- Construction continues on Interstate 82 at the Valley Mall Interchange in Union Gap.
The Department of Transportation says construction on I-82 will be completed by the end of this month, good news for drivers who have been dealing with lane closures and traffic delays over the past year.
Beginning Monday, the left, passing lane will be closed in both directions during daylight hours only.
Crews will be grinding down the center median near Valley Mall Boulevard to put things back to normal.
The DOT says they do expect traffic delays during that time, so drivers should give themselves more time during the week.
They're also excited to finish up this project.
"We are very excited to have this project finished. It's a great project that's going to relieve the choke point in our system. We're already seeing some of that with the roundabouts, are moving traffic quickly and safely," said Mike Westbay with DOT.
The DOT says this $34.2 million project has been very successful, no injuries to crews and it's on time and on budget.
Also a reminder, one of the eastbound lanes on I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass is closed until Friday. The DOT says drivers who plan to use the eastbound I-90 should expect major delays.
