WAPATO, Wash.-- October is Filipino-American History Month, to celebrate the Filipino-American Community of Yakima Valley held their Annual Harvest Dinner in Wapato Sunday. The Harvest Dinner has been a part of the Valley since 1952 when the first Filipino pioneers decided to start the community event.
Today's event raised money for FACYV youth and senior programs and gave the community a chance to take part in Filipino heritage.
"The Filipino pioneers that had been in the valley, they started this up in order to get the community together," said Tetchi Strew, a member of YACYV.
The event is their biggest fundraiser of the year and they expected to see close to a thousand people come through Sunday.
