With three teams sporting identical 6-1 records at the top of the GSL, the possibility is becoming ever-so-real that Ferris, Lewis & Clark and Mead could play a tie-breaker playoff for the league championship.

The first-year secretary of the Greater Spokane League, Herb Rotchford, sent out the reminder

on Wednesday, saying the playoff – if needed – would be Oct. 31 at Joe Albi Stadium.

"Not only is the league championship up for grabs, of the current top five 4A teams in the standings, two will be eliminated from the 4A playoffs with the Big 9 altogether. [There is a lot] at stake next couple of weeks.

Just two weeks remain in the regular season, and Ferris appears to have the most difficult schedule still to play with games against Lewis & Clark and at Gonzaga Prep. Mead plays at Gonzaga Prep this week and then hosts 3A University. Lewis & Clark's schedule is no slouch either, as the Tigers play Central Valley after this week's matchup with the Saxons.

And what's more: what happens if you have five teams at 7-2 to end the season?

Stay tune for that.

Mead clinches GSL volleyball title

The situation isn't so muddled when it comes to volleyball. Mead is the GSL champion, with Gonzaga Prep, Central Valley and Lewis & Clark fighting for position in the district tournament.

Mt. Spokane is the 3A champion, with North Central and University battling for the second and third seed. It could come down to a playoff if Shadle keeps winning. The playoff would take place Monday, Oct. 24 if needed.

Possible playoff in girls soccer

A playoff could also be needed in girls soccer, where Mt. Spokane and University are tied for the #1 seed with identical 4-3 records. A playoff would take place Oct. 22 at Joe Albi Stadium if needed.

In 4A, Central Valley and Gonzaga Prep have identical 6-1 records, but Central Valley is in first place because of points.
