UMATILLA, Ore. -- An autopsy has been performed on a man who was assaulted on Columbia River Highway near the Crossroads Truck Stop.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner, Dr. Larry Lewman says Mario Calvillo, age 27, of Irrigon, died from injuries to the head. This is being investigated as a homicide.

Calvillo was assaulted Tuesday night just before 9:00 pm by three people, with what witnesses are calling a baseball bat. It happened at a crosswalk intersection near Highway 730 and right off the Interstate 82 exit.

Calvillo was taken to  Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston, where he died shortly upon arrival. Police say there could be possible gang ties to this assault.

Two 17 year olds, Theodore Mendoza and Kevin Melendez have been charged with 1st degree manslaughter. The Umatilla County District Attorney, Daniel Primus,  says he will review the evidence and decide if the teens will face any additional charges by Thursday morning.

They are looking to talk to a third person of interest, Andres Carillo. If you see him, contact police.
