RICHLAND, Wash.-- First Tri-City dog park opens. Dozens of people showed up with their dogs to play in the new park. It's the first off-leash dog park in Tri-Cities. The Paws-abilities dog park is located at Badger Mountain Park in Richland.
The Tri-City Dog Park Society has worked more than six years to open a dog park. They said they were happy this is finally a reality.
Visitor Renae Koop told us the park is a great opportunity to bring dogs out and socialize with other animals. She says "it gives our dogs a great opportunity to run more free than they normally would."
It was an emotional event. People gathered also to remember Audrey Ulrich who started the project. She died about two years ago in a car accident.
The new park is 2.5 acres. It has a section for big dog and a place to play for smaller pets. The first phase of the park is complete. Now the Tri-City Dog Park Association is working on expanding the park to 5 acres.
