Richland Police investigate death of 34-year-old woman
RICHLAND, Wash. -- Police in Richland are investigating the bizarre death of a 34-year-old woman. Tuesday night at around 10:00 p.m., police found a pickup truck driving backwards, in circles in the parking lot at Gesa Credit Union on Goethals Drive. Police say there was no one in the truck, but they found Melissa Moone lying in the parking lot. It looked like she was hit by the truck, a 1978 Ford. She was taken to Kadlec Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
Accident reconstructionists investigated and learned that Moone borrowed the truck from friends. They believe she was alone at the time of the accident. They believe Moone accidentally put the truck in reverse instead of park, and got out to go to the ATM when she was run over.. However, Richland Detectives are still investigating and looking into all possibilities.
Sergeant Mike Harrison with RPD said, "at this point, there is no information that says that there is any criminal activity involved. We're certainly not going to discount anything out. We just want to piece together what happened as factual as we can. That can take a little bit of time."
The coroner will not be doing an autopsy, and says she died from impact to her chest. Police do have surveillance video from Gesa that they plan on reviewing as well.
