DEA accepts prescription drugs from people in Yakima
YAKIMA, Wash.-- People in Yakima were able to safely dispose of their unused prescription drugs Saturday.
DEA Agents were across the street from the Yakima Police Department. They accepted un-used prescription drugs.
Agents say they usually see a great turnout from the community which means they're hopeful they're making a difference in peoples' lives.
"The DEA take back events are really a great opportunity for people to clean out their medicine cabinets, bring in those drugs. You don't want to have them lying around your home where they might cause an accidental poisoning," said Margaret Shield with Take Back Your Meds Coalition.
Agents say after prescriptions are turned in, they're transported to Spokane, and destroyed in a high temperature incinerator.
This is a yearly event, so if you missed it today, you'll be able to drop off drugs next year.
