YAKIMA,Wash- There's some good news for the Yakima food bank that was robbed last weekend. Someone stole two thousand pounds of food from Sunrise Outreach, but they have received two new, large donations.
Unaware that the food bank had been robbed, Stone Church held a food drive on Monday and donated the proceeds to Sunrise Outreach. Northwest Harvest also made a large donation when they heard of the theft. The staff calls it divine intervention.
"To have all the food donated almost pound for pound, replenished from what was stolen, that's God", says Ken Trainor of Sunrise Outreach.
Trainor is also struggling to find volunteers to man the extreme weather homeless shelters. He says he still needs about 50 volunteers in order to be able to open the shelters November 15 as scheduled. If you're interested in volunteering, contact Sunrise Outreach (509-225-2310) to participate in one of their volunteer training sessions.
The Wapato Food Bank has also dealt with some problems lately. It's been vandalized twice in the last week. Last night, four boys were arrested for breaking in, and throwing eggs around the building.
