WALLA WALLA, Wash.-- Retirement home hosts veteran luncheon. A retirement home in Walla Walla has set a goal to help fund veteran programs that will teach them how to transition back into society.
The Park Plaza retirement community held an open luncheon on Sunday in hopes of raising more than $4,000.00.
The program is a national campaign that offers counseling and outdoor trips to veterans. Coordinator Bonnie Blum says "veterans come back each time and they're lost. They don't know how to deal with the feelings and all of the post traumatic syndromes."
The retirement home plans to match the funds they receive. Nationally the group plans to raise more than $1.2 million. So far this month they have collected more than $2,000.00. They hope to raise about $1,500 from the Sunday event.
