WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Walla Walla Police are investigating an attempted robbery that happened Sunday evening. Police say a man with a gun tried to rob Tom's Southgate Chevron on the 800 block of South 2nd Avenue around 5:15 p.m. Sunday.

The clerk told police that a tall, white man wearing a sweatshirt showed a weapon and demanded cash. Before the clerk could open the cash register, a customer came in. The clerk yelled to call police and both the customer and clerk ran. The gunman ran after he was not able to open the register himself. He was last seen heading north.

Detectives are reviewing surveillance video and speaking to witnesses. They are also still investigating earlier robberies at Taj Food Mart and Los Tapatios.
