Yakima extreme weather shelters open, Sunnyside shelter in need

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash- Extreme weather shelters in Yakima have good news to report.  Sunrise Outreach has opened all three of their winter shelters in Yakima.

When we last spoke to them they had to delay the opening of the women's shelter for lack of volunteers.  However, now it's their new family shelter in Sunnyside that needs volunteers to keep the doors open.

"They wanted to stay as a family unit they don't want to split up into the men and women's shelter so we decided to operate this one that way the family can stay together, that way there's not the trauma on the kids, they can be with their parents", says Ken Trainor of Sunrise Outreach.

Sunnyside's family shelter has volunteer trainings Wednesdays at 7pm at Oasis Community Church 344 N. 11th Street Sunnyside.
