KENNEWICK, Wa. -- The annual Turkey Trot at Columbia Park in Kennewick happened on Thanksgiving morning. Families and friends of all ages made up an estimated 3700 - 4000 people, a new record for the annual fun run.
Every year the Turkey Trot has a 5K race and a one mile path, where participants walked, ran, and even scampered on four legs.
The event is not only fun for its participants, it's also a fundraiser for the Benton Franklin Red Cross.
One family running in the race, the Ham family, told us "we're just really excited that it helps the Red Cross, it's also really fun."
Jeanne Jelke, the executive director of the Benton Franklin Red Cross was behind the event, she said, "it allows us to touch a lot of lives, a lot of people get touched with the Red Cross here, also it means a lot for us fund-raiser -wise."
The Benton Franklin red cross estimated that this year's race raised around $80,000. The proceeds will go to support several of their local programs, they'll have the exact amount of funds raised calculated by next week.
