PASCO, Wash. -- One Pasco family has a lot to be thankful for this holiday, so they organized a surprise party for their son, a Purple Heart recipient. Hospital Corpsman, 3rd Class in the US Navy John Raymond was hit in his shoulder after a bullet penetrated his gun while fighting in Afghanistan this June. He just came home from October 11th.'
More than 70 family members from across the country surprised him Thanksgiving morning at the Columbia Basin Shrine Club in Pasco.
"I wasn't expecting to have the whole entire family here.I couldn't figure out why I was coming down to get a table for Thanksgiving," says Raymond about the surprise.
"It's awesome. it's so nice to be able to see the whites of his eyes and know that he's ok," says his mother, Donna Raymond.
John has 10 months left on his contract, and he's still healing from his injuries. He says after duty, he hopes to get into police work like his father, Pasco Police Captain, Jim Raymond.
