Yakima Theatres unveils plans for new theater

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima Theatres unveiled plans for their newest movie theater in Yakima today.

The Galaxy Theatre will only be for people 21 and older. It will include a built in pub and guests will be able to order dinner from their seats.

It will replace the recently demolished uptown plaza off East Chestnut Avenue and Second Street. The company's president hopes the new concept will help the downtown area.

"In this area of downtown we've got a number of pubs and restaurants around there and hopefully we'll just add to the excitement and bring more people downtown," says Yakima Theatres President Kathi Mercy.

The company says they plan to show art films and sporting events on some of the screens, but they'll also still play blockbusters and wide release films. They hope to have the theater opened by August of next year.
