OLYMPIA,WA- AWashington State senator says the Democrat running for governor should play by the same rules as his Republican opponent.
Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna's gubernatorial campaign is on hold for now.
But Congressman Jay Inslee can continue to raise money for his bid because as a federal official, he isn't subjected to a state law.
Voters passed an initiative a few years ago that prohibited legislators from raising campaign money during the legislative session, which started Monday.
Republican Senator Bill Hinkle of Cle Elum this week introduced a bill that would also require federal officials running for state office to freeze their fundraising during the legislative session.
The bill contains an emergency clause so if the legislation passes, it would go into effect immediately.
