YAKIMA, Wash.-- Another armed robbery in Gleed Sunday adds to the already high number law enforcement in the Yakima Valley have seen recently.
According to Yakima Police, armed robberies, including, those with guns, knives, and physical assaults have seen a dramatic spike in the last three weeks. Many of these robberies happened at small markets or restaurants, like Sunday's at Suntide's Market in Gleed. Others, to individual people, like the school custodian who was beaten and robbed last week.
Captain Rod Light says they see this increase happen every year.
"During the holiday's it's not uncommon to see a spike in these types of crimes. There could be some level of desperation with people that don't have money," said Capt. Light.
Captain Light says car burglaries also see a spike this time of year. While people are out doing their holiday shopping, criminals take the opportunity to break in to cars and steal those gifts.
Police remind folks to always keep their cars locked and valuables out of plain site to reduce your chances of becoming a victim.
