KENNEWICK, Wash.--Car thieves are targeting old Honda Accords. They're taking older model Accords, ones built in 1991 and 1992. There's been 5 Honda vehicle thefts since Saturday.
Kennewick Police say this rash of car thefts is not weather related, and thieves are specifically targeting these older Accords. Each break-in has been the same.
Kennewick Police Sgt. Ken Lattin says "all those cases, the vehicles were secure. Keys were not in them. Thieves obviously are probably using some sort of method, potentially even shaved keys, to steal those Hondas."
Cars have been targets all around town. They were taken out of neighborhoods, parking lots and even the Columbia Center Mall. No area is immune to these kind of thefts. Police say car thefts are up 11% in Kennewick this year.
If you see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood or on the streets, call police.
