People in Yakima can now pay their parking tickets online
YAKIMA, Wash.-- Parking tickets in Yakima got a serious upgrade recently. People can now pay them online.
It's part of a new system the Yakima parking enforcers recently adopted. It's made by Velosum and uses an infrared pen for writing out tickets.
As someone writes on the form, the pen tracks what they mark and creates an electronic version. It sends this information to the officer's cell phone. They then upload the ticket and a few pictures of the car to the internet.
People ticketed can go online to either pay or contest the ticket. For parking enforcers, it's all about making the process easier.
"Just do it from home. They don't have to drive on an icy road, inclement weather, that kind of thing. They can get online and, you know, pay it that way," says Parking Enforcer Gary Goodwill.
Goodwill says it took him five years to find this system and get it up and running.
He says he's happy with it because it's user friendly, and many of the features like the pictures can help people with contesting or lowering tickets. You can find the website here.
