YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima City Manager Don Cooper has resigned. He only held the job for about four months.
Cooper resigned after learning a family member's illness was more serious than he had previously thought. While the city council and several staff members were aware of the condition... Coopers resignation still came as a shock.
"It was a surprise. And... There had been some discussion about this medical condition of a family member of his... The seriousness of it was not known, certainly by staff nor council, and also by him," says Randy Beehler of the City of Yakima.
The city council will hold a meeting tomorrow at five to discuss their next steps. Beehler says they need to appoint an interim city manager by Saturday night.
