Yakima retailers expect sales to do better this year

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Retailers in Yakima also expect to see a drop in sales this January.

We talked with several downtown businesses. They told us while sales will likely slow down in January, they expect to do better overall in 2012 than they did in 2011. Some businesses predict their sales might grow by as much as five to ten percent over the next year.

"I think it's going to be a lot better, I really do. I'm ready for a change, I'm really ready for a change," says K&K Custom Furniture Owner Jose Torres.

"As things improve, the businesses will improve and as we wait that out we just... Hang in there," says Greg Bemis of Stereo First & TV by Bemis.

Bemis says local businesses had to tighten their belts over the past few years to stay afloat. He says they'll likely have to continue that for the next few years.
