Group holds candlelight vigil tonight for human trafficking
YAKIMA, Wash. -
A group fighting human trafficking is holding a candlelight vigil tonight in Yakima.
January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month and an organization called "Comprehensive" hopes to raise awareness on the issue. Their Crime Victim Services Program is hosting the event.
They say human trafficking isn't just something that happens far away, it also happens here in our area. Comprehensive says human trafficking happens in many industries: from agriculture and construction to places like restaurants and salons. The organization hopes the vigil will educate the public on this issue and help them better report cases of human trafficking.
If you would like to attend the vigil, it's happening at 6 tonight in Millennium Plaza in downtown Yakima. If you'd like to learn more, you can call Yakima Crime Victim Services at 576-4326.
