Pasco, Wash. - Layoffs are coming at one of the Tri-Cities major hospitals.
Lourdes Health Network announced a series of layoffs Wednesday night that will affect about two percent of their workforce. 19 employees have lost their jobs. Others will have their hours reduced, and several open positions will not be filled.
The layoffs include several administrative, management, and senior management positions in the Tri-Cities. Lourdes Health Network CEO John Serle says anticipated funding cuts at the state and federal level have forced the organization to make these changes.
"We know there will be some changes, and probably some additional negative changes, whether they're from the state or federal front. This will help us be better prepared to meet those challenges," Serle said.
Serle says the moves were necessary to improve the hospital's financial position. He believes the changes will help the organization save more than $2 million a year, while still maintaining a high quality of care for patients and the community.
