YAKIMA, Wash.-- Construction on an irrigation and industrial waste system pipeline will continue in Yakima Monday.
People living along the Fruitvale Canal can expect crews to be working to finish the project.
Not only are they installing new outgoing irrigation pipes to help residents, but they'll also close up the canal in that area of town.
City engineers say not only will the new piping improve maintenance costs and efficiency but they're also preparing the area to grow.
"We're also installing future industrial waste lines for the potential development that may occur at the Boise Cascade Mill site," said Mike Shane, an irrigation engineer with the city.
The new pipeline will replace the old irrigation system that has been in the ground for, in some cases, about 100 years.
