KENNEWICK, Wash. -

Online applications can help rehabilitate autism. Social media has found a new way to help rehabilitate children with autism. Applications that can be used for the iPod and iPad can help a child work on their communication skills.

There are thousands of apps to choose from online. Next week the Responding to Autism Center is holding an open house for families. They will be teaching people about the most effective apps that can be used to help with the autism spectrum disorder.

Director Christine Lindgren says there are thousands of applications to choose form. "Some social interactions of recognizing feelings and different body language and for playing interactive games and problem solving. I could go on forever of how man apps are now available for kids on the spectrum," said Lindgren.

Schools are also taking an interest in the new teaching technique. The autism application workshop is free. Anyone can come to the event. It will be this Thursday starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Responding to Autism Center in Kennewick.
