YAKIMA, Wash.-- Organizations also gathered in Yakima and Sunnyside today for "Project Homeless Connect".
Both events bring homeless people together with services they might need, including medical and dental screenings, haircuts, clothes and food. The Yakima Department of Human Services uses both events to gauge how well they're serving the community.
"This is one of the more important events of our year. It's how we get a... One of the major ways we get a read on how well our programs are working and what programs people in the area need, what kind of services they'd like to take advantage of," says Homeless Programs Coordinator Avery Zoglman.
The department also took its annual survey of homeless people in the county. They say the number has been dropping for the past few years.
