A West Richland man is charged with 1st degree murder. A West Richland man appeared in Benton County Court Monday afternoon to face 1st degree murder charges in the death of his 87 year old grandmother. We have more on the possible motive behind this brutal killing.

According to court papers 28-year old Adam Ryan Williams admitted to killing his grandmother, Viola Williams. He refers to himself as "Lucifer Grand Am Dynasty" in the third person. The documents show Williams claimed that "God had sent a guiding light and angels to him. The light directed he kill Viola Williams."

We could only quote parts of the paperwork because the rest is very gruesome. Adam admitted to trying to strangle and suffocate his grandmother several different ways. He says he poured lighter fluid on her and lit her on fire, then stabbed her several times.

A relative found Voila dead inside her Kennewick home last Friday, January 27th. An autopsy performed by the Benton County Coroner shows she was beaten and stabbed to death.

Adam is being held on $500,000 bail. The court ordered him to be evaluated at Eastern State Hospital to see if he's competent to stand trial and to determine his mental state at the time of the crime. He will be back in court February 22nd.
