Basketball teams from the smaller schools across Washington will converge on Spokane in a matter of weeks for the annual State B tournament. And SWX will cover much of it live.
Thirty-two boys and girls teams in the 1B and 2B classifications will compete for their respective titles March 1-3 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. SWX will carry eight of those games on live television in the Spokane, Tri-Cities and Yakima markets. Four of the eight games will be the boys and girls championship games on Saturday – the last day of the tournament.
In addition to airing several of the games on TV, SWX also plans on covering the tournament online. Fans can get scores, stories, pictures and highlights on SWXRightNow.com, with additional information shared through social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Which teams will play in the 1B and 2B tournaments won't be known until Feb. 26, the day the WIAA announces the matchups in each classification. Once the matchups are set SWX will decide which games to air on live TV. They, and the rest of the State B games, will also be available online through the WIAA website.
SWX, operated in part by KHQ in Spokane, used to air the championship games of the State B tournament before the state athletics association changed the format several years ago as a cost-cutting measure. Beginning last year the tournament reverted to something resembling the old format, with all ‘B' schools traveling to Spokane for the state championship.
