Students compete to make it to SkillsUSA state finals

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Some big competitions were going on Saturday at Davis High School, to test the minds of students from around our area.

It was all part of SkillsUSA regional competition.

About 25 students competed in everything from a quiz bowl, public speaking, even preschool teaching.

Organizers say students enjoy the competition and it continues to grow year after year.

"We're giving students the opportunity to show off their leadership skills that they've learned over the past couple years in SkillsUSA through high school," said Zane Dellinger, treasurer of SkillsUSA Washington and a competitor.

Students who finished in the top three in their field will have the chance to go to the state competition and compete there.

After that, they can make it all the way to nationals.
