YVCC students provide free dental care for the community
YAKIMA, Wash.-- People in Yakima got free dental care Saturday.
YVCC's Dental Hygiene Program hosted their 19th Annual Free Dental Sealant Day.
They say they see about a hundred people, ages 6 to 21 come through every year.
They get a dental exam, fluoride treatment, and if needed, sealants to protect their teeth from cavities.
Organizers say it's a great for people who wouldn't see a dentist otherwise.
"The economy as it is now, people are having a harder time so if we can help prevent cavities, this is a good way to do it. It's a lot less expensive than having a filing done," said Darlene Gomez, the clinic's coordinator.
Most of the work was done by junior and senior dental hygiene students, closely supervised by dentists.
